Barcode Scanning

AERIS POS supports USB and Bluetooth barcode scanners for fast product entry.

Setting Up Your Scanner

Most barcode scanners work automatically with AERIS, just plug in and scan.

Recommended Settings

Configure your scanner to:

  1. Add Enter after scan - Most scanners do this by default

  2. Use keyboard mode - Scanner types the barcode like a keyboard

To test your scanner, open any text editor and scan a barcode. You should see the barcode number appear followed by the cursor moving to a new line (Enter).

Scanning Products

In the POS

  1. Make sure the barcode field is focused

  2. Point the scanner at the barcode

  3. Press the scan button

  4. The product is automatically added to the cart

Continuous Scanning

You can scan items continuously without clicking:

  1. Focus the barcode field once

  2. Scan each item

  3. Items are added to the cart automatically

  4. The field stays focused for the next scan

Troubleshooting

Scanner not working

  • Check USB connection

  • Try a different USB port

  • Make sure barcode field is focused

Wrong product appearing

  • The barcode may be assigned to a different product

  • Check the product in the Items section

  • Clean the barcode if it's damaged

Barcode not recognised

  • Try scanning more slowly

  • Clean the barcode label

  • Check if the product exists in the system

  • The barcode format may not be supported

Scanning is slow

  • Check scanner settings for delay

  • Use a wired scanner for better reliability

  • Position scanner closer to barcode

Adding Barcodes to Products

If a product doesn't have a barcode:

  1. Go to Items in the main menu

  2. Find and edit the product

  3. Enter the barcode in the Barcode field

  4. Save the product

You can also scan directly into the barcode field when editing a product.

Tips

Some products have multiple barcodes (e.g., different package sizes). You can add these as product variants or update the barcode field.

Need to print barcode labels? Use the Print Barcode option in the product details. (coming soon)
